Watson
The availability of this fine hound, armed with the best snout in the business, can be the difference between a criminal caught or lost. Dispatched by Mother as required, Watson's arrival is always greeted with enthusiasm by Blue Toad investigators, and with dread by the dishonestly malodorous elements he will swiftly sniff out. In the Blue Toad Detective Agency, justice has four paws and a wet nose.
Mayor Reginald Forthright
Full of bluster and enthusiasm, Reginald Forthright was born to be Mayor of Little Riddle. Never more content than when he slips on the mayoral chain to attend the agricultural fair, or to open the church fete, or simply to pop out for bread and well, whatever else it was will come back to him. While he loves his job, and is a little too keen sometimes to get involved, Reginald is a bit vague at best. Fortunately, Miss Ina Time protects him from the worst of his own nature. She can't save him from his love of codes and puzzles; his desk, home and even his diary are stuffed with half-finished crosswords, incomplete codes, and mysterious messages (mostly to himself).
Walter Watt (Station Master)
Proud caretaker of the gateway to Little Riddle, personable Walter Watt is the gentle guardian of the village railway station. His heartfelt, softly stated belief is that his station is the first impression visitors get of the village, and so should be as perfect as his dedicated efforts can allow. Furthermore, both locals and visitors departing the village should see in the station all that they are leaving behind when they step on to the train that whisks them away. Their wait should be one of quiet contemplation, encouraging them to return at the earliest possible opportunity. Key to Walter's plans to further this ideal is a caf in the station. Unfortunately, he is having trouble putting across his vision. Still, Station Master Watt is nothing if not determined. Very determined.
Inspector Bragg
Thomas William Bragg is a career police officer in the enviable position of having achieved all he wanted from life. A city man through and through, he considers himself to be of temperate disposition with only a few dislikes. These include the countryside, small villages, small village police, small village politics, interfering amateurs and creaky shoes. Imagine if you will his considerable delight in being dragged from a conference at a beach-side hotel to attend an altercation in the obscure village of Little Riddle. Thomas Bragg would very much like to get back to the conference. Sharpish.
